Things You Must Not Do In Hawaii

Hawaii is a charming and friendly destination for every visitor. However, there are still things you must not do in Hawaii. Our post will reveal them all!

Don’t Limit Your Visit To Oahu

Visiting Waikiki Beach, the North Shore, USS Arizona Memorial, etc. is unsurprisingly high on any visitors’ list of must-do things.

However, if you’re heading to Oahu for a break, consider adding an interisland hop as well. Whether you choose the main Island of Hawaii, Kauai, Molokai, Maui, or Lanai, just a day trip to explore is enough, if you can’t manage to stay longer.

Don’t Stand Next To The Blowhole – Things Must Not Do In Hawaii

Seeing water shoot a few hundred meters in the air is an exhilarating sight, however, it is still best watched from a particular distance.

Some blowholes on Eastern Oahu have surrounding and signals to ask tourists to stay back, such as Halona Blowhole. The others, like Nakelele on Maui, on the other hand, do not have any.

The intense strength of the ocean water can easily knock you down, wash you out or even suck you into the cave. These unexpected situations occurred before, and in some cases, people were found injured or even dead.

Don’t Turn Your Back To The Sea

Taking pictures while standing on a stony ridge next to the sea seems great. It is only until a wave comes to knock you down.

Waves are unpredictable, and those rocks are terribly slippery and are impossible to hold onto. As a result, the waves will sweep you away.

So, whenever you are around the sea, always remember to keep your eyes on it.

Resort villages are tourist destinations, so they’re probably going to draw crowds. With expensive shops and famous restaurants, it’s easy for people to join recreational activities as well.

Still, residing in smaller villages provides a comfortable experience. You will also discover local shops and cafes here. Moreover, you will have a great opportunity to rub elbows with locals, which offers you a better well-informed experience.

Don’t Steal Lava Rocks -Things Must Not Do In Hawaii

Haleakalā National Park complained they receive nearly 100 rocks in a month via mail from tourists who take lava rocks home and then send them back.

There is a superstition that if you take a lava rock, the volcano goddess, Pele, will put a curse on you. Normally, after learning that, tourists will return the rocks back.

In fact, taking anything out from the national park is illegal. Moreover, rocks are as meaningful in Hawaiian culture as everything in nature. So, remember not to bring them out of the park.

Don’t Hike At Late

There were cases when visitors got stuck on hike trails at late night. It may be because they underestimated how challenging it is to hike after sunset.

So, make sure that you are aware of the time and get back on time. We highly recommend you start hiking in daylight. Not only to feel the fresh air but also to keep you safe.
