We all want to spend more time outside now that summer is quickly approaching and the warm weather is here to stay. It’s about time you took a spin down one of the seven prettiest bike trails in the Netherlands.
It goes without saying that the Netherlands is regarded as the centre of the bicycle industry, and cycling is an important aspect of Dutch culture.
This magnificent flat region is home to some of the most gorgeous bike pathways in the world, from the sand dunes of Scheveningen to the breathtaking views of Kinderdijk’s windmills.
1. Scheveningen dunes
Nothing compares to riding your bike in the sun beside the water. There is something distinctly new and energizing about it.
These dunes are popular for hiking, but you can also travel from Kijkduin to Katwijk on a great cycling trail.
The Zuiderstrand region has some of the most impressive dunes; they truly have an otherworldly sense.
The frequent uphill and downhill biking in the dunes will also take care of any significant exercise needs you may have.
2. Vecht River
You may, of course, choose precisely how much of it you want to do yourself, but this itinerary will get you from Weesp to Utrecht. Along the river, you may view many dairy farms, stunning Dutch landscapes, and houses constructed by merchants from the Dutch Golden Age.
The last portion of the bike path passes past Utrecht’s Old Canal, which is perhaps one of the most beautiful locations in the entire Netherlands. The route is incredibly calm.
3. From Leiden to The Hague
Many of us may travel this route by train every day, but riding it is a whole different experience. Take the route that passes through Vlietland instead of the quickest one.
This beautiful region, often known as the Riviera of the Randstad, is home to lakes, forests, and charming Dutch-style homes.
Additionally, it’s a great idea to book a table at a restaurant at one of our vegan hotspots in The Hague if the catering firms reopen so you can treat yourself to a delectable meal after a long day.
4. Texel National Park
The island of Texel is located in the far north of the Netherlands, and its shoreline is breathtaking. You’ll pass through Texel National Park and numerous lovely dunes while biking around it. By bike, one can really enjoy the biological diversity of this landscape.
In addition, you may always ride your bike east from the dunes if you want to cover more ground on a longer trip. On a scorching summer day, you can have a particularly romantic bike ride while staying cool in the sea air.
5. Waterland near Amsterdam
One of the most beautiful bike trails in the Amsterdam vicinity is the Waterland cycling path, so check it out if you’re seeking something. Again, the architecture along this path is quite a traditional Dutch; picture bright wooden houses.
But if you continue on this charming bike path, you can reach the seaside. By a road that was only extended to the mainland in 1957, Marken, a historic fishing community, is where you end up.
6. Dyke Enkhuizen
Without a few dykes and dams, a list of beautiful bike paths in the Netherlands would fall short. It is truly mind-blowing for those of us who are new to living in a land made of dykes to see how this bike ride up in Lelystad will carry you across the sea.
This trail is mostly away from the main road, which adds to the surreal feeling of cycling down a narrow sliver of land in the middle of the sea.
7. Kinderdijk Windmills
The cycling route near the Kinderdijk windmills is another Dutch cliche that we just have to suggest. Every year, a lot of tourists come here.
In the off-season, you can ride your bike carefully around this ancient site and take it all in without having to worry about colliding with a careless visitor.
The best advice I can give for this place is to just remember that it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason. There is no finer location to see some antique windmills in motion.
