1. Clarence Drive, Route 44
A stunning coastal road in the Western Cape called Clarence Drive runs for roughly 21 kilometers from Gordon’s Bay to Rooi-Els. It offers breathtaking, unobstructed views of both the Hottentots Holland highlands and the Indian Ocean on either side. People travel slowly since the road is winding, which is ideal for taking in the scenery. There are many places to stop and take in the view.
2. Panorama Route
The Highlands and the northeastern Drakensberg Great Escarpment are both explored via the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga. It links several places of cultural and ecological interest, including the third-largest canyon in the world, the Blyde River Canyon. There are a few alternative routes with lengths ranging from 16 km to 198 km, as well as a few small but interesting places to see.
3. Route 62
From Montagu in the Western Cape to Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape, Route 62, South Africa’s longest wine route, runs. The wine-producing districts of Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Roberston, and the Klein Karoo are all along its path. The path serves as an alternate to the N2 for traveling from Cape Town to the Garden Route’s most remote points and the Sunshine Coast’s beginning.
4. Chapman’s Peak Drive
The nine-kilometer Chapman’s Peak Drive travels from Hout Bay to Noordhoek and is perhaps South Africa’s most famous picturesque route. The stunning and dramatic vistas of the Atlantic make the toll-road journey worthwhile. You can stop along the journey at vantage places to take pictures. Additionally, it offers unrivaled views of Hout Bay and the peninsula’s western slopes.
5. Midlands Meander
There are five different picturesque paths that make up this meander in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Each route includes detours for sightseeing, shopping, and dining, as well as several roads. If you’re driving from Durban, the region is a hub for adventure and a great place for a quick getaway.
6. The Johannesburg to Hartbeespoort Dam Breakfast Run
It’s understandable why bikers frequently use the route from Johannesburg to Hartbeespoort Dam as part of their morning runs. For Johannesburg residents who desire to venture beyond the city, the route takes less than an hour to drive. Whether traveling by automobile or bicycle, the Breakfast Run offers breathtaking vistas of the Magaliesburg highlands and the breathtaking Hartbeespoort Dam.
7. Wilderness to Tsitsikamma
The coastal region between Wilderness and the Tsitsikamma National Park is particularly spectacular. The Garden Route is noted for its gorgeous drives. There are stunning vistas of the Indian Ocean, lagoons, and rivers along the N2 route, which is just under 150 kilometers long.
The stunning Storms River Canyon is only one of the magnificent canyons and gorges in the vicinity of the Tsitsikamma National Park.
8. Swartberg Pass
The Swartberg mountains in the Klein Karoo are traversed by this gravel pass for a distance of 23,8 kilometers, and its peak provides breathtaking views of the mountain range. At Mullers Kloof, the relatively inaccessible pass, there are remarkable multiple switchbacks. Just keep in mind that anyone who has acrophobia should avoid it.
