The fascinating celebration emanates from a convention of “lantern offerings on water” of Japanese.

Hundreds of paper lanterns are put afloat in Pauoa Bay at dusk during the Floating Lantern Festival on the Big Island. It creates a stirring and dazzling scene. The glow of lanterns slowly fades in the night to commemorate forebears that have gone.
