The Tulip Routes in Flevoland
With a length of 88 km, Flevoland Noordoostpolder is home to many tulip farmers. You can find most tulip fields and most of the tulip growers in this region. Result? A splendid sea of ​​flowers never ends in early spring.
Every year in Flevoland, a Tulip Route is organized along with the most beautiful tulip fields in the province. In 2021, there will be three different car routes, a walking route and several cycling routes! No matter how many fields of tulips can be found in this area, they are still scattered. You might be disappointed by how much you’ll see if you always have to cover that distance on foot or by bike.
The 2022 tulip route is open from April 16 to May 7. You can find updates on the Tulip Route Flevoland website. Itineraries used to be free, but as of 2021, you’ll need a ticket for them. You can buy one online for 2022 and get the exact itinerary and an audio tour.
Tulip path in Goeree Overflakkee near Rotterdam
With a length of 111 km, Goeree Overflakkee has many tulip farms. Did you know 10% of Dutch tulips come from these fields! In spring, endless bands of tulips of all colors stretch across the Dutch landscape. Because this tulip region is considerably less known than the famous Bulb Region, you will find fewer visitors here.
If you’d like to explore the area by bicycle, the bike rental service in Middelharnis has a wide range of (electric) bike rental options. Two years ago, after renting an e-bike in Middelharnis, we cycled around the area and visited the fields. Since there are so many of them, you will come across them quickly.
You can drive this 105km light bulb route from Stellendam via Goeree Overflakkee Island. Beautiful fields of tulips will pass by and charming villages, pleasant beaches, and attractions like dunes. This trip along the tulip fields allows you to have a full day of fun or even a weekend excursion.
You can stop at tulip fields along the route at various locations. Because the fields can attract even more visitors, some farmers have opened up their land for you to get close to them. However, it won’t be as crowded as Keukenhof’s Tulip Park and Bulb Area.
Tulip road trip near Amsterdam
With a length of 62 km, the Bulb Route in the South Netherlands starts from Oegstgeest. Depending on how many photos stops you make, it could take around 3 hours to complete the trip. While driving, you will also see beautiful villages and seaside towns like Katwijk and Noordwijk. The route will pass through several nature parks where you can stop for a walk. And you’ll have to stop at the fields to see the flowers up close. All in all, make sure to plan a full day of driving this scenic road trip journey.
The great thing about this particular tulip route is that it’s not limited to the tulip season from mid-April to mid-May. That’s when the tulip fields are at their best, but if you arrive a little earlier, you’ve come to the right place for other flower fields. Other flower fields will bloom from March onwards, and vibrant daffodils and hyacinths will adorn the area. Some tulip fields are also likely to bloom, but not as much as during tulip season.
