9 Most Popular Nude Beaches in New Zealand

You probably wouldn’t think of New Zealand as the first place to look for nudist beaches. There are surprisingly many beaches across the nation that don’t require attire, thanks to European influence. So check out these top nudist beaches in New Zealand if you’re looking for a break from societal persecution or to work on your tan without waiting in lines.

1. Ladies Bay Beach

Don’t let the moniker fool you; this beach isn’t solely for women. This renowned nudist beach is only a short distance from the heart of Auckland. This protected cove is located right below the St Helier’s neighborhood’s cliffs.

2. Breaker Bay

In Wellington, you won’t have to travel far to find nudist beaches. Breaker Bay is well protected from the prevailing winds, despite Wellington’s reputation for nipping cold gusts that are unsuitable for stripping off. Also, you can observe the Cook Strait ferries as they pass by. Be warned that the major stretch of the beach is where the nudist area is located.

3. St Leonard’s Bay

St Leonard’s Bay near Takapuna is another choice for nudist beaches in Auckland. It is one of the more well-known nudist beaches in New Zealand. However, there are certain restrictions: you cannot stroll in front of people when in the dune, and you must remain at least 50 meters (164 feet) from the entrance steps. Otherwise, have fun. This beach is located in Auckland’s North Shore neighborhood.

4. Papamoa Beach

There is a short section of the well-known beach in the neighborhood of Tauranga where clothing is not required. At the intersection of Maranui Street and Papamoa Beach Road, signs point out the locations where it is acceptable to remove your clothes.

5. Little Palm Beach

This tiny nudist beach is another reason to visit Waiheke Island, in addition to the delectable wine and the island atmosphere. It takes about 45 minutes to get by ferry from downtown Auckland to this island off the coast of Auckland. Palm Beach’s westernmost point is Little Palm Beach.

6. Karekare Beach

In fact, this well-liked beach in Auckland’s Waitakere Ranges Regional Park is a nudist beach! One of the more scenic areas to bask in the naked sun is on this gorgeous black sand beach with craggy coastal cliffs. Yet, due to the beach’s rising popularity, many people will probably be dressed in their full beach attire.

7. Uretiti Beach

In New Zealand, the climate grows warmer the further north you go, which is ideal for this Northland beach close to Whangarei. For a worry-free nudist experience in Waipu, head west of Uretiti Beach. Be sure to remove your gear far from the adjoining campsite.

8. Peka Peka Beach

Peka Peka Beach, one of many beautiful beaches with views of Kapiti Island’s silhouette, is located along Wellington’s Kapiti Coast. Also, it takes pride in being New Zealand’s first beach that welcomes skinny dipping!

9. Pohutukawa Beach

Pohutukawa Beach is another secure location in Auckland where one can strip off. Long Bay’s northernmost beach has long been popular as a “clothes optional” beach. Just be sure to keep the bareness to the beach. Don’t walk the walking trails without your equipment.
