There are several magnificent lakes and some of the most breathtaking natural beauty in the world in Alberta, but one location, in particular, has become popular with tourists.
Moraine Lake was the only Alberta location to make the top 10, according to a rating of some of North America’s most picturesque lakes published by Travelbag, a company that specializes in long-distance travel.
The company used the frequency of Instagram posts and TikTok views to rank the lakes, with Lake Tahoe in the United States taking the first position. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth places were taken by other Canadian lakes, including Lake Erie, Lake Superior, Lake Ontario, and Lake Huron.
It is not surprising to Albertans that Moraine Lake is so well-liked by tourists, but it is surprising that it is the only location in Alberta to make a list. For visitors visiting Banff, Moraine Lake is a must-see. It is also a very popular location to see the sunrise over the mountain peaks and its brilliant blue lake.
There are several similarly beautiful routes to explore around the lakefront, such as Larch Valley and Consolation Lakes, making it a perfect site to start a hike.
When will Moraine Lake be open?
The good news is that Moraine Lake will be accessible later this year if you wish to travel there. The road leading to the lake shore, Moraine Lake Road, often opens in June and is open until mid-October.
The lakefront will no longer be accessible by personal automobiles, as Parks Canada recently announced that new regulations would go into effect this year.
Instead, you must schedule a trip with a Parks Canada-approved commercial transit provider, Roam Public Transit, or the Parks Canada shuttle.
