Moraine Lake Ranked First In The List of 30 Most Beautiful Lakes in the World By CNN

CNN Traveler ranks the most beautiful emerald-green lakes in the world. And Moraine Lake in Canada proudly tops this list!

1. What is CNN traveler’s list of the 30 best lakes in the world?

A gorgeous lake, with its crystalline surface and rainbow of colors, can display some of water’s most captivating characteristics. Some of the amazing natural and man-made beauties found all throughout the world, from Canada to Siberia, Malawi to Pakistan, may even make you forget about beaches entirely.

While these examples have varied names (lake, laguna, lago, etc.), they are all equally beautiful—and well worth a visit. These are the world’s 30 most gorgeous lakes, from opulent holiday locations in Italy to hidden marvels in Myanmar.

2. Why is Moraine Lake in Canada at the top of this list?

Banff National Park has many gorgeous lakes (Lake Louise and Lake Minnewanka are standouts), but we prefer the boldly blue Moraine Lake in the park’s west.

The lake’s vibrant color is due to mineral-rich runoff from the nearby glaciers, some of which may be seen in the distance on the Vally of the Ten Peaks—a row of ten mountains that previously appeared on the Canadian $20 bill.

Visiting Moraine Lake ( ML ) is a convenient excuse to stay at M Lodge, a lovely hotel with stone fireplaces and lake-facing balconies.

3. 10 Activities at Moraine Lake

Walk the Lakeshore Trail

The most popular hiking trail near M is likely the Lakeshore Trail.

Starting at Moraine Lake Lodge, the walk travels 1.5 kilometers (0.93 miles) along the shore of ML. Families, those who don’t consider themselves hikers, and even people using strong strollers can all benefit from using the Lakeshore Trail.

The path is very straightforward because it is flat and well-maintained.

On a lake in a canoe

What could be more captivating than viewing Moraine Lake and the Ten Peaks from a little canoe? No, not me!

This has to be among the most famous activities available at Moraine Lake, and it’s famous throughout Canada as well. Therefore, I don’t believe there is a better location to canoe on a Canadian lake than at Moraine Lake!

View the lake from the Rockpile as you enjoy the scenery.

Everyone who visits this lake has probably seen the image of the lake and the Ten Peaks, which is the most well-known image of the location.

The Rockpile is, as its name implies, a sizable pile of rocks. However, this mass of rocks has been transformed into the best vantage point for viewing, thus EVERY visitor should climb to the top to take in the view.

Coffee with a view is enjoyable.

Moraine Lake’s boutique café, The Snowshoe Café, serves all your favorites, including delectable coffee.

This lake can get very cold, even in the summer, and there is no better way to wake up or warm up than with a hot cup of coffee in your hand. It’s a good idea to spend a little time at the cafe if it’s raining in Banff National Park.

Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass hiking

The Larch Valley Trail in Banff National Park is one of the most breathtaking walks you can take in the fall. With the legendary Ten Peaks serving as an epic background, the valley transforms into a sea of yellow Larch trees.

Road to Eiffel Lake

Near the Larch Valley is an isolated alpine lake called Eiffel Lake. The Larch Valley Trek serves as the starting point of the trail to Eiffel, but after 10 switchbacks, you come to a fork in the road where one path leads to Eiffel Lake.

Climb the Tower of Babel quickly

The hike that follows isn’t a hike at all. It’s not even a “official” trail, in reality (if you ask Parks Canada.) It is, however, one of the most well-liked scrambles in Banff National Park.

It is famous for seeing people climbing the Tower of Babel. The track is well-known for its expansive mountain views and is a must-do for any novice scrambler.

Book a room at Moraine Lake Lodge.

Consider staying at this Lake Lodge for one or two nights if you’re still debating where to stay when visiting Banff National Park.

This hotel is called Moraine Lake Lodge. Although the exterior of the hotel’s rooms may seem a touch old, inside, you’ll discover newly restored, luxurious accommodations. Unsurprisingly, staying at this incredible hotel won’t be cheap; a room will cost you at least $850 per night.

Reach Consolation Lakes on foot

Consolation Lakes Trail is a fantastic choice if you’re searching for a straightforward hike at this lake that’s more adventurous than the Lakeshore Trail.

Ride a bike to Moraine Lake

You can thoroughly appreciate the breathtaking scenery along this lake Road from your bike, including sights of Temple Mountain and the Valley of the Ten Peaks.
