Prepare to be overwhelmed by nostalgia, Canada! The Hudson’s Bay Company has announced the return of the iconic retailer Zellers to Canada. Zellers will reopen and return to Canada in 2023.
According to the Globe and Mail, HBC will open new Zellers locations in The Bay department stores as early as 2023.
The Bay has not stated how many locations will be opened, where they will be located, or how much floor space the revived brand will take up in their stores.
It’s a large, hazy mystery tinged with nostalgia. And we’re all waiting for more information right now!
What we do know is that HBC has stated that Zellers will reopen in major cities across Canada. According to the Globe, HBC will also launch Zellers’ first-ever online store, selling items such as housewares, furniture, toys, clothing, and more. Zellers will even launch some of their own products under a private label.
Narcity has contacted HBC for more information on the Zellers’ return, and this article will be updated if and when a response is received.
Canadians who grew up in the 2000s will remember Zellers for various reasons, including the store’s red interiors, low prices, and, of course, the store’s mascot, a large bear named Zeddy!
The announcement of these openings follows recent Zellers pop-ups in Burlington, Ontario, and Montreal.
The pop-ups lacked the Zeddy wheel, the iconic restaurant, and the cool Zellers merch, but they did have the impeccable red-and-white vibes we all miss.
And, believe it or not, the last two Zellers stores in Canada (out of over 300!) closed in 2020, but anyone born in Canada before 2000 will remember the store’s heyday as the 1990s and early 2000s.
Anyone who remembers going to Zellers as a kid will be excited to see the old-school brand return to a Bay near them.
