This is the dramatic moment a giraffe defied death after being dragged down for five hours by a pride of six lions in a South African national park.
After a tense standoff, three lions attacked a nearby giraffe, with one piggybacking and the other two clinging to the giraffe’s back legs. The others quickly joined in.
The lions, despite weighing around 375 pounds each, were no match for the 1,750-pound giraffe, which plodded along until the lions gave up.
Photographer Francois Pienaar captured the moment while witnessing the giraffe’s ordeal at Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park.
