This is the breathtaking moment a young giraffe chases a safari vehicle full of tourists in South Africa.
The young male giraffe lives in the wild on the Northern Kwazulu Natal Game Reserve.
Matt Yardley, a wildlife photographer and safari guide, captured the moment. He and his team fled in the best interests of the guests – and the giraffe.
“The giraffe was abandoned as a youngster, but released back into the wild, so he still has a lot of wild in him,” Matt, 35, of Salt Rock, South Africa, said.
“But he also has a certain tameness about him.”
Although the giraffe’s size and speed may appear frightening at first, the youngster was simply investigating and did not act aggressively in any way.
“He was curious about the vehicle and trying to figure it out, which resulted in the chase,” Matt added.
“He associated the vehicle with his upbringing, but he’s also a wild giraffe, so there was some confusion, which I found quite interesting.”
“While filming, I was concerned about the safety of both my guests and the giraffe.” “I ensured that the driver was driving at a reasonable speed in order to keep the giraffe at a safe distance and that we did not drive too fast and injure ourselves.”
“Our driver handled the situation admirably.”
“All’s well that ends well; the animal was safe, and no one was injured.” “It was a fun experience that ended with a good laugh, so it’s just one of those feel-good moments.”
The video was shot in early 2021.
