9 Hollywood stars you probably didn’t realize were Dutch.

Don’t be deceived by the accents on-screen; Dutch actors appear more frequently in Hollywood films and television shows than you might think.

The Netherlands is a small country populated with straightforward, outspoken individuals who do not attempt to be someone else. However, the country has generated abundant talent in the acting industry.

There are several prominent Dutch actors with roots in Hollywood. Bogart, Brando, De Niro, Theron, Akroyd, Carradine’s, Van Dyke, Fonda, and Aguilera are some notable actors and musicians. However, let’s take a deeper look at the nine Dutch actors and those with strong Dutch ancestry who are currently on screen.

Audrey Hepburn – Dutch Hollywood stars

Hepburn, one of the most well-known Dutch actors in Hollywood, was born in Belgium in 1929 but raised in Arnhem by her mother, a Dutch baroness. During her adolescent years, when the Nazis occupied the Netherlands, her family was so hungry that they had to ground tulip bulbs for bread flour to survive.

She was a volunteer nurse for the Dutch Underground at the age of 16 during the Battle of Arnhem. She joined Hollywood after independence and a few film jobs in Europe.

Audrey Hepburn was a legendary Hollywood actress when she performed flawless roles. In the 1950s and 1960s, she starred in films such as Roman Holiday, Funny Face, Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Charade, and My Fair Lady. She was nominated for three Academy Awards and won Best Actress.

Hepburn also declined a position in Anne Frank because watching executions in Arnhem would be emotionally distressing for her. She was a lovely individual who went away in 1993. She was one of twelve individuals who have won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony.

Carel Struycken, who was born in The Hague, has performed numerous eccentric roles in hit films such as Twin Peaks, Star Trek, Men in Black, Witches of Eastwick, and Haven, as well as The Addams Family, in which he portrayed Lurch, one of my favorite childhood characters.

This Dutch actor frequently portrays a giant in Hollywood who is not the primary character but is incredibly recognizable.

Michiel Huisman – Dutch Hollywood stars

Michiel Huisman, an actor and singer from the Netherlands, was born in Amstelveen. In The Age of Adaline, he portrayed Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones and Ellis Jones, a fantasy romance.

You may also be familiar with Orphan Black, The Invitation, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Black Book, and the HBO series Treme. However, with 53 screens mentioning his name to date, there are other stories in which you may have encountered him.

Jeroen Krabbe, who was born in Amsterdam, is recognized for his roles in The Fugitive, Immortal Beloved, The Living Daylights, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, and Transporter 3. He is well remembered for his role in Soldier of Orange with Rutger Hauer. Krabbe has played more than 100 roles throughout her career – that’s incredible!

Rebecca Romijn

Rebecca Romijn was born in California to a Dutch mother and a Dutch father. She portrayed Mystique in four X-Men films and also starred in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. She is a Dutch Hollywood actress of whom everyone may be proud. The television series Ugly Betty, Just Shoot Me!, The Librarian, and Eastwick are among Romijn’s 47 roles.

Famke Janssen – Dutch Hollywood stars

Born in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, Famke Janssen is a writer, director, and actress. She has portrayed numerous leading parts, including Xenia Onatopp in the James Bond series Golden Eye, Jean Gray/Phoenix in the X-Men films, and Lenore Mills in Taken.

Janssen has also played recurring roles on Nip/Tuck, Hemlock Grove, and Black List. The actress has spoken out against Hollywood’s ageist perspective of women by declining to star in the final X-Men film.

Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour was born in England, but her mother was Dutch. She spent most of her childhood in Vught, Netherlands, and is fluent in Dutch. As an actor and producer, she is well-known for Doctor Quinn, The Medical Woman, the James Bond films Live and Let Die and Wedding Crashers, as well as several miniseries and television programs. She has been nominated for twenty-two awards and won nine, including two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award.

Carice van Houten – Dutch Hollywood stars

Her film Love Life in the Netherlands broke box office records. She also co-starred with Tom Cruise in the film Valkyrie, for which she was nominated for several Saturn and SAG awards, among others, and won a number of accolades, primarily in Europe.

Hauer has appeared in more than 100 films, taught a master’s course in the Netherlands, and is a “Knight of the Dutch Lion” for his contributions to acting and philanthropy. Hauer won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Escape From Sobibor.
