Atwood won many prestigious awards for her writings, such as the Princess of Asturias Award for literature, the Scotia Bank Giller Prize, the Booker Prize, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, etc.

Her long-story fiction “The Handmaid’s Tale” succeeded her in the 2985 Governor General’s Award and the Arthur C. Clarke Award. It was also the final publication winner for the Booker Prize.

According to her, the inspiration for the novel “All my puny sorrows’” comes from the suicide of her elder sister. So, this is a book based on real-life events. She has won a string of prizes for her in her whole writing career, such as the Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award, the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, etc.

Margaret Laurence is Canada’s one of the best-respected and adored authors. Her hometown is Neepawa, Manitoba.

She was the originator of the Writer’s Trust of Canada. This organization contributed a lot to Canadian literature and gave much encouragement to many authors.

Her best publication is “The Stone Angel”. Kari Skogland made it into a movie, starring Ellen Burstyn. The film was released in 2007 under the same name as the original book.
