6 Things You Can Do To Enjoy Auckland’s Autumn

Grape picking, a plethora of apples, mandarins, and persimmons, autumn leaves in full splendor, and olives ready to be crushed for oil. Could the fall season be more appealing? Here are all the things you can do to enjoy Auckland’s autumn.

1. Park strolls

Pick your favorite parks for autumnal color and visit them while they are still at their best. Young youngsters who love to run and kick their way through the leaves seem to be energized by the autumn breezes.

At Western Springs Park, you can watch the Eels wriggle in the water, feed the ducks with your kids, and let them play on the playground. Alternatively, you may take a picnic to One Tree Hill and observe the farm animals there, including cows, lambs, and roosters.

2. Fish and Chips on the beach

There are just a few weekends left before winter temperatures make the beach a little too gloomy, at least for picnics (there’s nothing better to clear the cobwebs than a brisk walk along the beach on a clear winter’s day).

Given that the renowned Hook Line & Sinker takeout is only a short drive away, Mission Bay is a good location for a picnic. The seagulls are standing by to grab your chips, so be careful!

3. Cornwall Park Café

Cornwall Park Café, tucked away amid the changing leaves, is a great place to warm up with a hot chocolate, relax with some seasonal truffle mushrooms, or enjoy a hearty breakfast bowl.

The kids will be out the door and burning off their breakfast, racing through the lovely fallen leaves because there is a fantastic kids’ menu as well as autumn trees just outside the door.

4. Leaf drawings or paintwork

Make some lovely prints from the autumn leaves to proudly show on the refrigerator. Together with your child, gather a few leaves, and tell them to paint them any color they like. Encourage them to press them onto plain paper after they are satisfied with how they appear.

The leaf can be taken off to show a lovely colored impression. A similar result might be achieved by having your youngster sketch over the plain paper with leaves placed underneath.

5. Bike tracks

Mid-season weather is always the best for biking (mostly because the kids aren’t complaining about being too hot or cold). In addition to having spacious paths that are ideal for biking and scootering, Western Springs, Mission Bay, and One Tree Hill are also close to a variety of delectable eateries in case your small ones feel peckish (or, more likely, you need coffee!).

6. Conker Caterpillars

In a few easy steps, your child might make their own autumn friend. All they require is a skewer, a few pipe cleaners, some googly eyes, and a handful of chestnut conkers (or any other type of autumn dropper you may have in your garden).

To begin, poke holes through the middle of each conker with a metal skewer. Your kids can thread conkers through once you tie the pipe cleaner’s end. Use a huge conker as the head and either tie the pipe cleaner end to form the mouth or bend it into two tiny antennae.

Your kids can add googly eyes and any additional embellishments (paint, stickers, glitter—the possibilities are endless) when they’re finished. These caterpillars can also be made into a pull-along companion by you and your children using string.
