The Most Exciting Things You Can Look Forward to King’s Day 2023 in Rotterdam

Are you prepared for Rotterdam to become orange? In addition to the customary parties, flea markets, and games, Rotterdam’s King’s Day celebrations include the opportunity to spend the day with the royal family.

If you think that sounds like fun, you might want to stop into Rotterdam on April 27 for a distinctive Koningsdag (King’s Day) experience that includes boat parties, markets, and a huge crowd of happy partygoers dressed in orange.

1. Rotterdam is on The King’s route

A one-kilometer city tour of Rotterdam will give King Willem-Alexander and his family a flavor of the city, including musicians and performers at several points.

The family will start at Afrikaanderplein at 11:00 AM and proceed via Pretorialaan and Maashaven.

The royal family will board a Rotterdam black-and-yellow water taxi from there, and as they pass by the SS Rotterdam, the Hotel New York and cruise beneath the Erasmus bridge on the Maas, bystanders can wave to the monarch as they do so.

The family will next proceed from Plein on foot to bridge the Blaak and proceed in the direction of the Markthal. The tour will conclude at the Binnenrotte around 1:00 PM.

Oh, and don’t forget your crown, too! Along with wearing all orange clothing, Rotterdam residents will also be wearing crowns in keeping with this year’s “we are all kings and queens” theme.

2. Get ready to party!

There is a big list of parties that will be going throughout the day throughout the city for those who are itching to ring in the holidays with some music and dancing.

Everyone is invited to the free celebration on the Binnenrotte from 12:00 to 5:00, which will feature performances by musicians including Davina Michelle, Ronnie Flex, Lee Towers, and more.

You can also stop by the Noordplein Containerbar Noord, where admittance is free until 4:00 PM if you’d rather listen to Rotterdam’s DJs.

Do you want to dance to hip-hop, house, disco, or afro music? There will be several DJs at the Royal Republic festival at the Hofbogen, which is also free.

Maybe you want to explore the area and take in the sights. There will be boat parties, karaoke nights, and orange galas all across the city beckoning you to attend, so that sounds like a wonderful plan.

3. Markets, activities, and snacks

There will also be festivals where you can catch up on your yearly allowance of tomato juice, play some games, and ride the Ferris wheel for those who need a little break from dancing.

Be sure to visit the vriijmarkts (flea markets) located all around the city if you want to celebrate King’s Day in a more sedate manner.

Throughout Wijkpark Oude Westen, Schouwburgplein, Mauritsweg, and numerous more sites, you may buy, sell, and exchange little items with your neighbors while also enjoying a drink.
