Lions cause 100-car traffic jam by MATING in the middle of the street

Two lions mated in the middle of the street in a South African national park, causing a traffic jam.

The male and female lions were photographed mating in front of several cars, causing a traffic jam at Kruger National Park.

Cars had to veer off the road for more than 20 minutes as the pair mated, and drivers tried to make noise to get the lions to move.

A female and male lion can be seen dossing in the middle of the street creating a build up in traffic. But the traffic gets even worse when the couple start a mating session in front of the cars

Tourist Catherine van Eyk, 27, filmed the mating session and said she was one of the first cars at the scene. She said that by the time the lions were finished, about 120 cars had built up in a traffic jam

‘We waited and watched them for about 20 minutes,’ Van Eyk said. We were fortunate because there were only about 20 cars when we arrived. There were approximately 120 cars when we left.

‘We were surprised that the lions continued to mate in the presence of so many cars; we expected them to move off into the bush away from the cars, but they didn’t seem bothered at all until people started making noise.

‘Cars could get around them, but only with great difficulty – cars had to drive off the road, and there was only enough space for one lane.

‘The cars had to move at a snail’s pace as well.

‘There were no other lions around. A mating pair will frequently go off on their own and rejoin the pride a few days later.’

Van Eyk said that she and other tourists were ‘surprised’ that the lions continued to mate, despite hundreds of cars encircling them
