There are lots of things you can do in The Hague for no cost if you’re sick and tired of spending your money in a pricy, touristy Amsterdam! The following seven activities can all be done in The Hague for free.
1. Visit Binnenhof
Binnenhof is easy to overlook and completely free! This intriguing complex of 13th-century Dutch government buildings is situated in the center of The Hague.
Like the entire Netherlands, the picturesque Hofvijver pond is home to numerous ducks and swans as well as an odd water feature. At dusk, it appears as if it were taken from a Disney film!
The Binnenhof’s interior is very impressive. You get the impression that you’ve traveled back in time when you’re standing in the courtyard. The best part is that you may take advantage of everything for nothing!
2. Check out the Peace Palace
The Peace Palace is an absolute must-see while touring The Hague. The International Court of Justice is housed there, and the structure itself is incredibly spectacular. Additionally, while entering the Peace Palace’s grounds will set you back a few euros, visiting the small museum up front is free.
Furthermore, you can always take pictures in front of the gate for some seriously Instagram-worthy imagery. When you tell your international friends that you visited the International Court of Justice, it also sounds incredibly cool.
3. Go to beaches for free summer vibes
The beach in The Hague has long been one of the things that sets it apart. Even if you don’t like swimming for eleven out of the twelve months of the year, you can always take a leisurely stroll down the seaside.
You wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a French or Dutch beach, especially in the summer when temps rise above 20 degrees (it happens!).
The various beach bars and restaurants provide meals and drinks for a few extra euros. You may also go zip lining, bungee jumping, or ride the world-famous Ferris wheel if you’re feeling particularly daring.
4. Clingendael is free nature-based recreation in The Hague
One of the most exquisite rural estates in the Netherlands is Clingendael. The park is the ideal getaway if you’re trying to escape the city and get in touch with nature.
The park is a tranquil and enjoyable area to visit because of its large grounds, canals, and undiscovered pathways. Actually, Clingendael offers so much variety that you could easily spend the entire day there. All you’d need to do is pack a picnic lunch to eat at one of the many tables.
In the fall and spring, the Japanese garden, which is also free to visit, is occasionally open if you’re lucky.
5. If you simply look, it’s free: the Red Light District
You can also go to The Hague’s Red Light District if Amsterdam seems too far away (ooh!). If you really want the, eh, whole experience, it’s a Dutch Red Light District even if it’s fairly small and somewhat sketchy.
Looking is still one of the free things to do in The Hague, even though actually “experiencing” its full potential could be fairly expensive.
6. Malieveld Park offers free stress relief
Do you want to experience Central Park in New York? We’re sorry, but we’re not much help. But in The Hague, Malieveld Park is the closest thing you’ll find to it. This park, which is directly across from Central Station, like an oasis in the middle of the metropolis.
You can take a relaxing stroll, test your abilities at the skate park, and watch the local deer. You can escape to Malieveld Park like a bubble from the demanding city life. And because it’s free, it’s unquestionably less expensive than any psychiatrist.
7. Although the experience is free, beer costs money: Grote Marktstraat
Who doesn’t appreciate a cold beer after spending the day admiring The Hague’s splendor? Grote Markstraat is the location for you if you’re looking for a wonderful place to relax and experience real Dutch culture.
Unfortunately, beer is expensive, but it’s free to sit back and enjoy watching folks go by! Grote Marktstraat is not just The Hague’s main shopping street, but it also has a number of quite distinctive taverns and cafés.
