The Canyon Lights Christmas decorations at Vancouver’s Capilano Suspension Bridge are perhaps the greatest time to come in December. The lighting is incredible!
The evening holiday illuminations are displayed this year between November 19th, 2022 and January 22nd, 2023.
What makes Christmas at Capilano Bridge so special?
Christmas at Capilano Bridge
Canyon Lights Vancouver’s illuminations are breathtaking, with about 500,000 lights and decorations. In many respects, the winter holiday decorations at Capilano Suspension Bridge are similarly beautiful, original, and delightfully Christmas-y.
Canyon Lights, in our view, is the most romantic site to take a date to enjoy the Christmas illuminations! It truly is fascinating!
Canyon Lights Video
A video of Canyon Lights Vancouver during Christmas may be found below. It features a video from the 2019 attraction and one or two clips from the previous year. The nighttime event did not occur during the 2020/21 Christmas season due to the coronavirus epidemic and the ensuing government health rules (although the lights were still up and visible for people visiting the attraction during the day up until about 6 pm).
The film opens with a park section featuring First Nations totem poles. The following scenes feature live musicians and the area just outside the gift shop. A walk along the Cliff Walk follows this at dusk, and then a nighttime crossing of the suspension bridge.
In the video, you can see people traveling over the bridges high up in the air from tree to tree on the other side of the canyon, followed by a sight of the Christmas ornament-like light displays above the pond. The film concludes with a glimpse of the attraction at its Capilano Road entrance.
As you can see in the video, the site appears rather wonderful at night during the Christmas season!
Where are Canyon Lights located?Â
Canyon Lights Vancouver is held at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, about a 5-minute drive from the Cleveland Dam and the base of Grouse Mountain. The address of the venue is 3735 Capilano Road in North Vancouver.
The attraction is located on the street’s western side. On the west side of Capilano Road, there are pay parking lots. Parking is around $5 for the duration of your visit. Few free off-street parking is also accessible on nearby side streets.
When is Canyon Lights?
Previously, the attraction was open from late November until late January (but closed on Christmas Day). Canyon Lights, however, was canceled entirely in 2020 owing to COVID-19. The attraction reopened on November 20, 2021, and will be open until January 23, 2022. Canyon Lights is set to return from November 19th, 2022, to January 22nd, 2023.
When the event takes place, the park is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the lights and Christmas activities beginning at 4 p.m. most years.

Canyon Lights Attractions
Canyon Lights has a lot to offer in terms of activities and sights. Capilano Suspension Bridge has a lot to offer at any time of year, but especially during Christmas.
During Canyon Lights, there are the usual historical, geological, and nature educational displays, beautiful First Nations totem pole art and tree bridges. There’s also the Cliff Walk, a fancy gift shop, hot chocolate stands, and the world-famous (but perfectly safe) suspension bridge.
Paths within the venue were marked one-way in 2021 to keep people safe and to allow physical separation. Within the property, there were many one-way loops, including one at the entrance, another to access to the Cliff Walk, and a few around the grounds on the opposite side of the bridge.
Capilano Christmas Lights
The stunning lights and holiday decorations make Capilano Suspension Bridge so wonderful during Christmas. The light displays are more delicately and artistically done than at some of the Lower Mainland’s other Christmas light settings – there are fewer lights per square foot than at other locations, but they are as impressive.
Look down at the Capilano Suspension Bridge at night during Christmas to view the lit river in the canyon far below. The colors of the lights there are continually changing. Take time to admire the waterfall as well.
Christmas Crafts
Throughout the year, Canyon Lights hosts a variety of craft activities for youngsters. In recent years, you’ve been able to decorate and then consume a gingerbread cookie. In 2019, however, this was not the case. Guests could also construct a personalized button and a wooden tree ornament in 2018, and they could do it again last year.
Because of COVID-19, there were no craft activities in 2020. However, you may still acquire a decorated gingerbread cookie for a gift to the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund. There didn’t appear to be any major craft activities last season either.
Canyon Lights Owls
The Snowy Owl Prowl, which included light decorations in the shape of owls concealed throughout the park in 2021/22, was a wonderful addition to the park in 2021/22. If they come back in the future, count them as you go, predict how many there are, and then enter to win a gift.
Last season’s grand prize for winning the Snowy Owl Prowl was a family vacation in the Canadian Rockies, so it was a sizable one! Most of the owls were simple to see, but a handful were more difficult.
Recommendations and Advice in Canyon Lights
- Consider heading to Capilano Suspension Bridge in the late afternoon before it gets dark in December, so you can enjoy the vistas while the sun is still out and the river is visible below. Then stay until dusk (about 5:30 p.m.) to see the site fully lit with Christmas lights and transformed.
- Canyon Lights is especially popular on weekends and the week leading up to Christmas. Have fun and be patient with the crowds, especially if you take public transportation or the free shuttle bus service to get home.
- Many portions of the Capilano Suspension Bridge are inaccessible to wheelchairs. Visitors in wheelchairs, on the other hand, frequently enjoy free entrance. Dogs can also accompany their owners to the venue, provided they are on a leash and under supervision.
- Expect to spend 1.5 to 2 hours at Canyon Lights, plus or minus, depending on your level of interest, the weather, the crowds, and whether or not all areas are open at your visit. Take your time, however, and enjoy the incredible experience!
