Aloha Festivals 2022, A vibrant celebration of Hawaiian culture and the spirit of Aloha, Hawaii.
After a two-year hiatus from in-person events, Aloha Festivals returns this weekend. The opening ceremony for the month-long celebration of culture, tradition, and aloha spirit takes place on September 10, 2022, in Waikiki. Following the grand event, an exciting calendar of events fills the month of September. This year’s theme, “Aloha ina, Love of the Land,” is woven throughout the festivities. With aloha ina (land) at the heart of this year’s events, everyone is invited to discover Hawai’i’s deep connection to the land and sea. The festival serves as a reminder to the community of its kuleana (responsibility) to care for the Islands, which have supported generations of kamaina (residents) and malahini (visitors) (visitors).
So, as you fill your calendar with the 2022 lineup of events, here’s everything you need to know about Aloha Festivals.
Royal Court Investiture & Opening Ceremony – Aloha Festivals
The Royal Court Investiture takes place at Helumoa Gardens at The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort. Through a series of traditional protocols, the ceremony honors Hawaii’s alii (ruling chiefs). Members of the Aloha Festivals Royal Court, dressed in regalia worn only by alii of the highest rank, represent Hawaii’s royal past. While the event preserves the traditions of Hawaii’s alii and monarchs, it also provides an illuminating glimpse into the Islands’ history, which many visitors are unfamiliar with. Following the investiture, the Opening Ceremony is held at The Royal Grove at Royal Hawaiian Center. Hula and mele will be performed here for a lovely evening in the heart of Waikk.
Helumoa Gardens at The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort and The Royal Grove at Royal Hawaiian Center, Saturday, September 10, 2022, 4-6 p.m.
