Hyams Beach: Discover Australia’s Whitest Sand

Hyams Beach, known for its sugar-white sand and crystal-clear waves, is a picturesque vacation spot. A national park’s edge completes the scene. Discover beautiful coastal hikes, encounter the local wildlife, and discover the glistening ocean in this small community on the NSW South Coast’s Shoalhaven peninsula.

1. Hyams Beach: One of The World’s Whitest Sand

Hyams Beach is a stunning Jervis Bay beach in Australia’s New South Wales. It features the world’s whitest sand, according to the Guinness World Records.

Microscopic quartz particles, which are small sand crystals that are nearly luminous, make up the sand at Hyams Beach. It is impossible to visit this beach without wearing sunglasses in the summer because these crystal particles are so distinctive and dazzling that they are practically blinding.

The region is situated between the Jervis Bay and the Booderee National Parks, just outside of Australia’s botanical gardens, and as a result, it has a pristine scenery surrounded by natural species and plants. Whale and dolphin watching is excellent in this bay. Even the uncommon glimpse of the “blue whale,” which swims in these stunning seas, is occasionally conceivable.

2. Indigenous History of The Region

The region that is today known as Hyams Beach is where a group of Yuin, or what early settlers referred to as “the Jervis Bay tribe,” traditionally lived. The Wandandian people, sometimes known as the “Jervis Bay tribe,” spoke Dharamba, perhaps the northernmost dialect of the Dhurga language.

Michael Hyam, who was given 41 acres of land there in 1859, is the subject of the name Hyam’s Beach.

3. Things to do in Hyams Beach

Enjoy beach adventures

The serene turquoise seas, which can be found on the southern coasts of the magnificent Jervis Bay Marine Park, are excellent for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and stand-up paddle boarding. Roll out your towel and stroll the beach while listening to the lazily clicking sands beneath your feet.

Fur seals, tiny penguins, and bottlenose dolphins all find refuge in the marine park. Along the NSW South Coast, humpback and southern right whales can be seen during their annual migration. Huskisson, a short distance north of Hyams Beach, is the starting point for tours to watch dolphins and migrating whales.

Take beautiful nature walks

Follow the Hyams Beach walk through Jervis Bay National Park for an hour. The 2 km return pathway, also known as the “bird spotter’s walk,” was created by birdwatchers and is a fantastic site to see local birds, including colorful rosellas. The trek starts at the southernmost part of the beach, and you may walk back along the same path.

The White Sands Walk is another must-do activity. The 90-minute stroll weaves through the coastal woodland of Jervis Bay National Park and across white sand beaches as it travels from Hyams Beach to the Greenfield Beach picnic place in Vincentia. Booderee National Park, located south of Hyams Beach, offers guided excursions led by Aboriginal rangers.
