The campgrounds surrounding Banff National Park provide the most affordable lodging options while also providing campers with the best scenery and access to nature. The 13 Banff National Park campgrounds have 2,468 sites and are reasonably priced.

Campground occupancy peaks from June to September, with July and August being the busiest months. The majority of the campgrounds are first come, first served. It is recommended that campers who do not have reservations arrive at a campground early in order to have the best chance of obtaining a site.

Operation Dates

The hours of operation vary. Summer camping starts in early May, and all campgrounds are open by mid to late June. Summer campgrounds are closed in September and October. Tunnel Mountain Village II and Lake Louise Campground both offer winter camping.

Passes and Permits

All campers are required to purchase a camping permit at the campground kiosk or the self-registration kiosk. Campers can also purchase a fire permit at these locations, and they must have a valid Park Pass to camp. Campers who do not purchase a pass face fines.
