One of the undiscovered beauties of South Australia, Greenly Beach is unquestionably a must-see on any eyre peninsula itinerary. Swimming, camping, and canoeing are popular activities on Greenly beach. Because the waves can be up to one meter high, it is also a favorite among surfers.
1. Why should you visit Greenly Beach?
One of the most stunning locations in South Australia is Greenly Beach. You must stop at the well-known pools and surfing beaches while driving through the Eyre Peninsula.
Additionally, we advise climbing Mount Greenly, as the view from the top is breathtaking.
2. Greenly Beach Rock pools
You will find the primary Greenly Beach rock pools on the right side of the beach, past the big boulders. If the tide is low, you will be able to recognize this popular photo location once you clamber over the rocks since you may have seen it on social media or in South Australia travel books.
There are also other rock pools on the beach’s right side that are worth exploring. Again, we advise visiting these at low tide because it might be hazardous at high tide and in stormy water.

3. Mount Greenly
As you approach Greenly Beach by car, Mount Greenly is situated to your right. Mount Greenly is one of the only hills in the area that you will find if you wish to climb one.
Views of Greenly Beach may be seen from Mount Greenly’s summit, which is 305 meters above sea level. If you continue on the gravel road, you will eventually come to a place where you can park your car.
The trail is unmarked, but you can navigate the hill by following a worn path that has been used before. Please be mindful of the brown snakes that reside amid the hillside bushes if you are climbing in the summer. We suggest wearing long pants as an additional layer of defense.
You can cool down in the rock pools at Greenly Beach after you reach the bottom.
4. How to get to Greenly Beach?
Greenly Beach, which is on the Eyre Peninsula, is about one hour’s drive from Port Lincoln, a location that is more renowned. On the Eyre Peninsula, Greenly Beach is about an hour’s drive from Port Lincoln. It can only be reached by car, like the majority of locations in Australia.
After leaving Port Lincoln on the TOD highway, turn left onto a 12-kilometer stretch of gravel road. The first 4–5 kilometers on this road are rough, but after that, it gets better. When you reach Mount Greenly, turn right.
From the north, proceed along the coast and make a left. After Mount Greenly, the road gets exceedingly rough and is littered with holes. When you start to get close to the water, drive carefully.
5. What is the best time to visit?
The climate will have a significant impact on your trip to Greenly Beach. There is a strong wind that frequently blows in from the ocean since the rock pools are exposed.
The summer and low tide are the ideal times to visit Greenly Beach Rockpools. South Australia’s summer season runs from December through February.
6. Greenly Beach camping
At Greenly Beach, there are unrestricted camping areas that are marked out with logs above the water. There are enough places here, but it could be crowded in the summer. However, we strongly advise staying at least one night so you can take in the sunset and park so you can see the surf. It is a truly amazing experience.
7. What to pack?
- Wet Shoes: It’s highly recommended that you wear footwear that you can climb in and become wet. Ours allowed us to access the rock pools and swim in them.
- Sun Cream: The wind picks up, and you don’t know how quickly you are burning, so use lots of sun cream.
- Go Pro: This location is fantastic for photos. The rock ponds are a great place to capture pictures of the abundant Marie life. Fear not—we failed to spot any sharks in them.
- Food and water: We encourage you to carry some food and drink for a full day of touring since there are no stores or fresh water nearby.
