Even the King of the Jungle recognizes when he is outgunned, and when confronted with a large herd of buffalo, this lion makes the right decision to flee.
Two photographers on safari in Kenya described the beautiful photos of an utterly fearful lion with thousands of buffalo hot on his tail in the Masai Mara.
A lioness initially approached the buffalo from the male lion’s pride, but before she could attack the bovine, the herd became aware of the hunters’ presence.
The herd turned on the lion and his lioness and began charging toward them to chase them away.
The lioness looks to have rushed away, but the male lion, who is not used to sprinting after or in front of his prey, is left behind with panic in his eyes.
While on safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, Laurent Renaud and Dominique Haution captured the humorous reverse hunt.
‘You could feel the dread in the lion’s eyes,’ claimed Mr Renaud, 55.
‘When we arrived, the cats were simply resting in the bush. But buffalo don’t enjoy having lions around, so they attacked them. The lions didn’t need a second invitation to escape, and they bolted quickly.’
