1. St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve
Thousands of seabirds, including guillemots, kittiwakes, and razorbills, call St Abb’s Head their home. Go inland to the Mire Loch to look for swans, ducks, damselflies, and butterflies while learning more at the Nature Centre about the local animals, geology, and history.
2. Balmacara Estate
A significant portion of Scotland’s natural history, Balmacarais home to a variety of wildlife species and the endearing Highland coos. Popular boat cruises are provided from Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton for the chance to see seals, seabirds, and possibly otters, whales, and dolphins.
3. Ben Lomond
Put on your walking shoes and take in the breathtaking vistas of Ben Lomond’s surroundings, which feature a wide range of native wildlife, including pine martens, ptarmigan, ravens, meadow pipits, adders, common spotted orchids, and more.

The visitor center is where your tour to Killiecrankie begins, where you can discover more about the geography, fauna, and history of the region. When visiting Soldier’s Leap Falls, be sure to keep an eye out for jumping salmon as well as other notable animals like red squirrels, woodpeckers, and pine martens.
6. Mar Lodge Estate National Nature Reserve
For Scottish wildlife, the beautiful Mar Lodge Estate is a paradise. While tree creepers, willow warblers, stonechat, and great tits are at home in the woods, red grouse, meadow pipit, and skylark are busy on the moors.
Lucky birdwatchers might catch a glimpse of a golden eagle flying far above. But, the most impressive performance occurs in the fall when red deer stags begin to rut; the roaring and crashing of their fights can be heard across the glens.
7. Staffa National Nature Reserve
The stunning island of Staffa is widely known for both its amazing birdlife and its recognizable hexagonal granite columns. Have a lunch while viewing puffins on the island’s summit, observe the fulmar, shag, and black guillemots that are nesting nearby, and keep a lookout for whales, dolphins, or basking sharks!
