A brave lioness encourages a horde of hungry wild dogs to attack her, allowing her youngster to flee.
Shalin Fernando was on a safari drive through Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve when she noticed a mother and her youngster encircled by a ravenous herd.

The pack of at least nine predators forms a circle around the pair, and the lioness rushes out at two of the dogs, enticing the rest of the pack to attack her.
As the pack focuses primarily on the mother, the cub slips away and hides in a tree away from the chaos.
Shalin stated: “I was stunned and concerned for the lioness and her youngster.
“We spent around 30 minutes with a lovely lioness and her youngster before moving on to seek for wild dogs.
“When the wild dogs arrived on the scene, they approached the female lioness and her youngster and began menacing them.
“All of her previous cubs did not survive, according to our guide.”
The dogs continued to assault, but eventually gave up and walked on.
“The lioness and her youngster had been saved.
“The next day, we spotted the wild dogs, and one of them had been bitten and was limping around.”
