8 Most Popular Zoos In The Netherlands For Kids And Family

Looking for a fun summer day trip? Here are the best zoos, animal parks, aquariums, and monkey parks in the Netherlands. Zoos have a certain allure to them. Perhaps it’s the cute fluffy animals that lift our spirits. Whatever your pet’s preference, we’ve compiled a list of the most popular zoos in the Netherlands, such as Apenheul. Ecomare Texel, Burgers Zoo Arnhem, AquaZoo Friesland.

ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo

This is the oldest and most visited zoo in the Netherlands. Despite its age, it is still very modern and well-maintained. ARTIS Zoo offers its visitors a full day of entertainment, with a variety of different things to see.

They have a daily schedule, so if you want to see the lions or penguins being fed, make sure to check the times and arrive at the enclosure on time. They provide guided tours as well as hotel experiences. There’s also an aquarium and a planetarium at the zoo, so there’s plenty to see and do!

Blijdorp Zoo Rotterdam, Netherlands

Rotterdam Zoo is a personal favorite of mine because I live close by and have visited it several times.

I may be biased, but I believe it is one of Europe’s most beautiful zoos. Others are likely to agree with me, given that it has been nominated for numerous awards!

It has beautiful scenery and a fantastic playpark for kids (if seeing all the animals hasn’t exhausted them yet). It features a large aquarium, a butterfly garden, and animals from around the world. The zoo is so large that you may struggle to see everything during its opening hours.

Burgers’ Zoo Arnhem

Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem is a fantastic zoo located outside of Holland. It has a diverse range of species ranging from desert to ocean habitats. Even a mangrove forest exists!

There are several great things to do at the zoo, including five different restaurants. The animals here live in their natural habitats, which distinguishes them from other zoos.

In this sense, they are free to roam around rather than being confined to cages or small enclosures. It’s unquestionably more ethical, and it’s a unique experience to witness.

This is the place to go if you want more than just a regular zoo. Wildlands Adventure Zoo is exactly what its name implies: a zoo, but a very adventurous kind of zoo.

Consider roller coasters and treetop walks, as well as restaurants and jungles. This makes it ideal for the entire family. There are river rapids, temple ruins, boat rides, and safari buses, making the entire experience feel like something out of a Jumanji movie!

If you’ve ever visited the island of Texel, you’ll know that it’s stunning and teeming with local birds and sea life. The Ecomare is a facility that cares for sick or injured seals and birds. They are returned to the wild after being nursed back to health.

You will be able to witness this fascinating process of rescuing animals and rehabilitating them in their natural environments as a visitor.

The Leeuwarden AquaZoo is devoted to marine animals such as polar bears, penguins, and crocodiles. Here you can learn about the various animals and how zoo employees care for them all, as well as watch some animal shows!

There’s also a “Seal Safari,” in which you can take a boat to the middle of the lake to watch the seals swim. It’s a fantastic place to visit with a group of friends or the entire family.

Apenheul

Apenheul is not only a one-of-a-kind animal park in the Netherlands, but it is also a research facility specializing in apes and monkeys.

The monkeys are free to roam, so you never know what they’ll do (one might even sit on your shoulder!).

There are informational signs scattered throughout the zoo where you can learn all about these wonderful creatures as you walk around and observe them.

Sea Life Scheveningen

This one isn’t exactly a zoo, but it’s still worth a look! Sealife centers are essentially massive aquariums with a plethora of sea creatures to admire for hours.

This one is on the beautiful Scheveningen beach (killing two birds with one stone) and has over 150 different types of fish.
