7 Fall Getaways In New Brunswick To Escape Reality

It’s a little chillier and the days are shorter as green gives way to reds, yellows, and oranges, but that’s no reason not to enjoy fall in New Brunswick! Here are 7 getaways in the province that are best experienced during this period of transition.

Fundy, like many other National Parks, is a great place to spend a few days in September and October, and even into November if you dress appropriately.

Fundy National Park provides numerous opportunities to experience the beauty of fall in New Brunswick, whether on two feet as you hike the myriad trails found throughout the Park, each with its own unique way of showing you the beauty of the changing nature that surrounds you, or on two wheels as you ride around the two mountain bike trails and various other multi-use trails at high speed, taking in the fall beauty.

Caraquet is home to the Acadians, a French Canadian community in Eastern Canada. Beautiful autumn colors illuminate the town on the Acadian Peninsula. Caraquet is also home to the Acadian Historical Village, an 18th-century village that is as vibrant today as it was 200 years ago. If history is your thing, the Acadian Museum, which showcases the Acadians’ history from deportation in 1755 to resettlement in the East, is also a must-see.

Continue on to Miscou Island from Caraquet to see vast peat bogs that turn scarlet red in the fall and walk along spectacular beaches framed by magnificent fall colors.

Caraquet is a fantastic place to be in the Fall, whether you arrive early and celebrate Festival L’Acadie (a five-day festival celebrating the Acadians, their heritage, and culture, with food, song, and dance) or arrive later in the season and just want to check out Caraquet, the changing colors and vibrant Acadian culture are a winning combination.

The Atlantic Balloon Fiesta in Sussex is one of the country’s largest gatherings of hot-air balloons and is ranked as one of the top ten festivals in the Atlantic region. While the tree leaves slowly change color in early September, the true color will be seen in the balloons as they soar. You can even take a ride yourself and enjoy the beauty of the festival as well as the breathtaking views from above. The Atlantic Balloon Fiesta is a fantastic way to see Sussex and welcome the Fall season.

Kouchibouguac National Park

We’ve arrived at the second National Park on our list, and while it’s no less beautiful, it’s perhaps the lesser-known of the two. Kouchibouguac is on the Acadian Coast and is very different from Fundy National Park, not least because of its geographical location and all of the variety that entails.

The hiking and biking trails that surround the park move in loops, and the park’s main activity area is much more centralized and open — so you can enjoy the joys of Fall right in the park, with unobstructed views of tree leaves changing color.

Kelly’s Beach is a must-see because it is surrounded by vibrant colors on all sides. In terms of northern New Brunswick parks, Kouchibouguac is the place to be in the fall.

7 Restful Small Canadian Towns That Are Even Better in the Fall

Kedgwick Fall Festival

As the Kedgwick Fall Festival takes place, autumn is just getting started.

There’s a lot to see, do, and experience as the leaves change colors and the days get cooler. Kedgwick is in Restigouche County in northern New Brunswick.

It just so happens to be the ideal location for experiencing Fall. It’s high in the mountains and thus looks down on beautiful valleys and rows upon rows of trees, all with changing leaves. Aside from its natural beauty, the Fall Festival is a gathering place for song, dance, good food, good vibes, and spectacular scenery.

Mount Carleton Provincial Park, Saint-Quentin

Mount Carleton Provincial Park is the third park location on our list, but in the fall, it may outperform both Fundy and Kouchibouguac in terms of natural beauty. Mount Carleton is a perennial favorite among hikers, and it is especially beautiful in the fall.

No matter where you go for a hike in the Park, you’re sure to find some beautiful scenery; however, we recommend hiking to the peak of Mount Carleton on the Mount Carleton Trail — it’s a 9.27km loop trail that takes you up to the peak of Mount Carleton before looping around and returning you to where you started.

It is the most difficult of the Park’s trails, but it is also the most rewarding. You’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of the valley below once you reach the top of the mountain, and if you time your hike correctly, you’ll see a glorious mix of trees with different colored leaves. Mount Carleton is an absolute must-climb if you have a day or two to spare on your fall trip around New Brunswick. This is best Fall Getaways In New Brunswick!
