Many of us are itching to explore and travel in the summer of 2022, but factors such as flight delays and rising living costs are putting international travel on hold for some. Fortunately, according to TIME magazine’s list of “The World’s Greatest Places of 2022,” two of the world’s top destinations are in Canada: Tofino, BC and Toronto, ON.

TIME compiled the list of the top 50 places to visit in 2022 by soliciting nominations from its “international network of correspondents and contributors, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.”

Tofino is known for its surf, sand, and spectacular natural surroundings.

Tofino, a former fishing village turned adventure playground, is windy, wild, and wonderful, combining breathtaking ocean views, outdoor adventure, surf culture, and luxury resorts. Tofino, on Vancouver Island, is known for its windswept beaches, but it’s also an ideal place for strolling or cycling through spectacular nature, including the recently completed multiuse Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

Toronto is diverse, multifaceted, and growing.

Toronto, Ontario’s capital city, is well-known for its culture, innovation, and incredible, diverse food scene — but TIME also highlighted the city’s growth and burgeoning art scene in 2022. TIME singled out Toronto’s year-long ArtworxTO public art initiative (which highlights the city’s diversity while supporting local artists) and the Toronto Biennial of Art (a visual arts event which brings free exhibition, performances and learning opportunities to the city).
