This is when a newborn giraffe appears and receives a kiss on the cheek from its adoring parents.

Victor Soares, a project manager and amateur wildlife photographer invited to the estate, captured the image on the plains of a private wildlife estate in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Although he came too late for the birth, Mr Soares captured a touching moment soon after the infant was cleaned up by its mother and father.

The calf looks to be getting a light kiss on the forehead in one of the photos.

In another, the calf is cleaning itself while leaning across to one of its moms.

The calf is still sitting in the grass in all of the photos.

Mr Soares, 46, who now lives in London, took the photos when he was still living in Johannesburg, where he was born.

He described a ‘boring’ day at work as a sales representative for an engineering firm when a customer on the wildlife estate asked him if he had ever seen a giraffe give birth.

He was then invited to the estate, located approximately 190 miles (300 kilometers) from Johannesburg, to witness the remarkable moment.

‘I couldn’t believe what he was saying, but I knew he was a big fan of my photography and that he lived on a private wildlife estate in Mpumalanga – I’d been there before,’ he explained.

‘I got off work, rushed home, called my wife (who was overjoyed), and told her what I was up to. She became as pleased as I was and wished me success.’

Mr. Soares stated that when he arrived, he was informed that he had come 15 minutes late for the birth.

He did, however, bring his camera to the event and was able to take the poignant photographs from his vehicle, even though at first he couldn’t see the calf since it blended in with the ground.

‘I couldn’t see anything! ‘I couldn’t get an angle on it from inside the car, so I assumed a brownish mass near the giraffe feet was part of the landscape,’ he explained.

‘I was expecting to see a brand new, brilliant orange little kid. Within a few minutes, the child raised his tired head, and the mother began to clean it up.

‘This lasted around 5 minutes, and I was able to fire away and capture some fantastic images.

‘The mother then stepped away as another giraffe walked in and inspected the newborn, seeming to seal approval and acceptance with various kisses and nudges that I managed to record once again.

‘I waited for a few more minutes but had to leave since I wanted to get back to work. Overall, I had a fantastic working hour shooting and witnessing the birth of a new life.

‘A fantastic experience,’ he added.
