The Highlands are not just castles, lochs, and mysterious monsters. Incredibly fine beaches, nearly reminiscent of the Caribbean, give or take a few degrees, are also found in this region of Scotland. Here are the six best beaches not to be missed here.
1. Melvich Beach
Melvich Beach is known for its crescent-shaped dunes that bloom with flowers as soon as summer arrives and its white sand. After a little stroll, you arrive at it, which is situated close to the hamlet of Portskerra at the River Halladale’s mouth. The ideal place to unwind and go surfing.
2. Dornoch Beach
That area of golden sand is lovely. It has shallow waters and is surrounded by dunes, making it safe for swimming. Those who have patience can view numerous birds all around them. And moving a bit farther north, Golspie and Brora both have further beaches that can be seen.
3. Scourie Beach
Long Scourie Beach, which is halfway between Ullapool and Durness, is the ideal place to observe the numerous marine birds that stop there to rest. This white sand beach is surrounded by rocky inlets that drop into a turquoise sea and is protected from the wind. To see Handa Island, you should also ascend to the cliff’s summit.
4. Sandwood Bay
It is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK because of its pink sand and undulating cliffs. You can go 6.5 kilometres into the heart of nature from Kinlochbervie, which is located in the extreme north of the Highlands, to get there. Once there, savour the tranquillity of this picture-perfect beach.
5. Camusdarach Beach
This sand crescent, which is south of the Morar Estuary, is a section of the Silver Sands of Morar, a string of magnificent beaches that dot the peninsula. The area is conducive to leisurely walking in excellent weather. A breathtaking view of the Isle of Skye, the cliffs of Eigg, and the peaks of Rum can be found across the street.
6. Balnakeil Beach
This vast beach is two kilometres from Durness and is bordered by grassy dunes and shallow, transparent, but chilly waves. The most daring will swim there, while others will choose to stroll along the coast. You should arrive just before dusk when the sky turns orange. Simply put, it’s magical!
