Going to Amsterdam in the summer? Here is a selection of the most delightful summertime activities in Amsterdam. Look at this!

1. Take a canal boat ride

One of the greatest ways to visit Amsterdam is by boat, thanks to the city’s extensive and intricate canal network.

The canals, which were first constructed to manage the city’s water levels, are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You enter the canal belt right away on the cruises. You’ll see more than just stunning vistas from here; you’ll also catch a sense of Amsterdam’s thriving history and culture.

There are numerous varieties of canal cruises, from opulent open boat tours to sightseeing of the city. Choose between quick boat cruises and full-day excursions.

2. Ride a bike throughout the city.

Travelling by boat is not the only option. Cycling around Amsterdam is a necessity if you visit during the summer. It’s simple to do because there are many places to hire bikes.

You can rent a bike and ride about the city, stopping at various locations along the way, or you can go exploring on your own. Consider joining a bicycle tour or using a riding route for something more planned. If you wish to avoid the activity and noise, there are routes into and out of the city centre.

E-bikes for rent, like Lime bikes, are frequently available all over the city streets. One thing to keep in mind is that there are A LOT of motorcycles in Amsterdam, so be cautious and move slowly.

3. Pay a visit to the Anne Frank House

Despite the city’s abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities, it wouldn’t feel proper to suggest a trip without bringing up its illustrious historical landmarks. The Anne Frank House falls under this.

One of the most significant museums in Europe is this one. The museum was founded in 1957 and is devoted to Anne Frank’s memory and the well-known diary that she kept. Anne Frank fled to this home in 1942.

4. Investigate the Van Gogh Museum.

Another essential is the Van Gogh Museum, especially for art lovers. One of the most well-known Dutch painters of all time, Vincent Van Gogh, is honored in this museum via his life and work.

When visiting Amsterdam in the summer, visiting museums may not be at the top of your to-do list, but I strongly advise making the time. It provides a pleasant respite from the heat on hotter days. The opportunity to view and engage with historical art that is unique to this location is, however, what matters most.

5. Vondelpark’s roses can be seen.

Let’s get back outdoors now. One of my favourite summertime activities in Amsterdam is exploring the city’s many parks, and Vondelpark is a great option.

Vondelpark is one of the uncommon places that both locals and tourists adore. It is surrounded by nature and is constantly bustling with activities. Similar to the gorgeous rose garden in the park’s northwest, which blooms throughout the warmer seasons. One of the most magnificent sights you may see in the summer in Amsterdam is this.

In addition to the roses, Vondelpark offers a lot of sights and activities. You name it: picnics, people-watching, etc. There is a statue of the poet Vondel, a playground, and throughout the summer, free performances are held in both the park’s open-air theatre and bandstand.

6. Wander around the Amsterdamse Bos woods.

Additionally important is Amsterdamse Bos. The largest green space in the city is this forest, a stunning expanse of land filled with lakes and trees.

You may jog, ride a bike, or even take a brief plunge here. It’s one of those inner-city jewels that, when compared to the busy city centre, feels like another world.

7. Choose from the many festivals in Amsterdam

In Amsterdam, the summertime is festival season. So, it’s worth checking out what’s going on if you’re planning a trip at this time of year.

Where else would you witness Pride in Amsterdam, which is one of the most famous in all of Europe, traditionally take place on the canals? But there is so much more, including culinary and cultural events, film and music festivals, and more. The Aalsmeer Flower Festival, Mystic Garden, and Taste of Amsterdam should be a few of the items on your bucket list.

8. Wander the streets of Jordaan.

One of Amsterdam’s most well-known neighborhoods is Jordaan, and a hot summer day is the ideal time to visit. It has a genuine cultural past while being overflowing with attractions like galleries, eateries, and flower-lined walkways. Its ambience is unique in Amsterdam because of this, and you won’t encounter anything else like it.

Get a glimpse of the real Amsterdam that its citizens try to hide by visiting the eccentric bars, lively streets, and off-the-beaten-path museums.

9. Relax at a city beach

There isn’t a true sea in Amsterdam, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go to a beach and unwind. In fact, one of my favourite summertime pastimes in Amsterdam is going to one of the urban beaches.

Unexpectedly, Amsterdam has a lot of urban beaches. One of the most well-liked among both visitors and locals is Blijburg aan Zee. Swim and sunbathe in this serene urban retreat.

10. A’DAM Lookout offers a bird’s-eye view of the city.

There is no better place to get a good perspective of Amsterdam than A’DAM Lookout. You can view Amsterdam from this observation deck in a full panoramic view. The view is breathtaking; you can see the famous canals and the entire city. It’s one of my favourite summer pastimes in Amsterdam because you can see even more on a lovely day.
