In 1927, Bet Van Beenen opened the first gay bar in Amsterdam. After she died, her siblings, Greet, took over and operated it until 1982 and then closed.

However, in 2007, Greet decided to resurrect the bar just right before her death. Since then, it’s her niece, Diana Van Laar, who runs the business. She operates it as a part nostalgia shop, a part brown cafe with a billiards table and a jukebox. Especially, the bar has cocktails with unique names such as Blow Job.
