7 Beautiful Mountains You Should Visit In Hawaii

Not only famous for its stunning beaches, but Hawaii also has other scenery to live up to its nickname as a tropical paradise. Here are 7 beautiful mountains you should visit in Hawaii.

Diamond Head

Located near the coastline of Oahu on the east, Diamond Head is Waikiki’s most identifiable landmark. This 300,000-year-old volcano has a well-known hiking trail that no visitors coming to Oahu can skip.

This place is a part of the Diamond Head State Monument and provides stunning sceneries of Waikiki and the nearby ocean. The path leading to the top of Le‘ahi was a crucial part of Oahu’s shore protection in 1908. It’s only about 0.8 miles from the trailhead to the summit. But you will find it kind of longer and harder to reach since it is slippery, strenuous, and abrupt.

Haleakala – Beautiful Mountains In Hawaii

Haleakala
Haleakala

This Haleakala is a massive volcano on Maui Island. The highest ridge is at 10,023 feet. There is a tremendous depression 2-mile-wide, 7-mile-long, and 2,600-foot-deep at the mountaintop.

The mountain is a part of the Haleakala National Park. The Sliding Sands Trail is one of the main tracks leading into the volcano. The atmosphere at the peak is low, about 40°F, and the air is extremely thin at the high cliff. This makes the hiking activities on the mountain more challenging. But in fact, none of that obstacles can keep tourists and hikers away. In contrast, people love reaching its summit in the early morning to see the sunrise.

Hualalai

At the moment, this is one of the active volcanoes on Hawaii Island. This is also one of five shield volcanoes that shape the island. Its most elevated peak is 8,271 feet high and is approximately 300,000 years old.

People forecast that its next eruption will be within the following century. The natives have lived here even before reported history. The royals of the Hawaiian created numerous palaces on its pitches.

The volcano ecology is various such as rare plant species and nature reserves. The shore is full of extravagant resorts. Many hikers try to go up the top, which is easy to hike, though the land close to the peak is personally owned.

Kamakou – Beautiful Mountains In Hawaii

The mountain’s location is on the island of Molokai. Its height is about 4,961 feet and is the most elevated ridge on the island. It is a piece of an extinct volcano on the east Molokai.

The majority parts of the mountain belong to Kamakou Preserve, a habitat that is a shelter for Hawaii’s most endangered and rarest plants. However, the preserve is available to guests.

Kawaikini

The elevation of Kawaikini is 5,243 feet. It is one of the most stunning and scenic mountains on the globe.

The tallest summit of the Mount Waialeale volcano is one of the wettest areas on Earth. A weather gauge near Lake Waialeale recorded more than 900 inches of rain a year.

The long extinction of the volcano, as well as natural erosion over time, has contributed to shaping the strange but rugged beauty of the mountain.

The slopes and wet soaring cliffs on the east are unreachable for hikers. However, it’s the backdrop of many blockbusters. The only practical way to reach the destination is to go through the Alakai Swamp by walking through the trails of Kokee State Park.

Kohala – Beautiful Mountains In Hawaii

Kohala

This is the most aged volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. It’s a mist-shrouded mountain wrapped in a lush forest, with deep canyons and splendid waterfalls.

The northeast is full of the abrupt cliffs of the Waipio and Waimano valleys. The north and west side is about the valley and the shore.

The highest peak of the mountain is 2,560 feet. Its name is Kaunu o Kaleihoohie. This area receives a huge of rainfall constantly and is very hard to access. Kohala Mountain Road is famous for its gorgeous picturesque road with the best views of the mountain.

The Kohala State Forest Reserve around the mountain is a protected area. Its purpose is to ensure that majestic views will stay undeveloped and pristine.

Ko’olau

This is one of two mountains that shape the form of Oahu. It’s easy to see from most parts of the island.

Ko’olau has a height of 3,150 feet. Its summit has a long cliff above 2,000 feet high, rising steeply and exhilarating, straight out of the ocean. Ko’olau is a remnant of an enormous extinct volcano.

Though it’s near the urban center of Hawaii, it is hardly inhabited. This is truly a wilderness attraction for those hikers who find solitude. The trails here are surrounded by many obstacles. For example, forests, rare plants, steep cliffs, and of course, breathtaking sights.

  1. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something which too few folks are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy I stumbled across this during my search for something relating to this.
