Margaret Atwood – Famous Canadian Authors

Atwood won many prestigious awards for her writings, such as the Princess of Asturias Award for literature, the Scotia Bank Giller Prize, the Booker Prize, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, etc.

Her long-story fiction “The Handmaid’s Tale” succeeded her in the 2985 Governor General’s Award and the Arthur C. Clarke Award. It was also the final publication winner for the Booker Prize.

Robertson Davies

In fact, Davies has authored about 30 books throughout his writing career. The best work so far is “‘What’s bred in the nine”. It was a nomination for the Booker Prize. His books were full of bizarre personalities, funny and impulsive.

Joseph Boyden – Famous Canadian Authors

He wrote numerous motivational books many of which we can even categorize as masterpieces.

Heather O’Neill – Famous Canadian Authors

O’Neil’s talent in writing is gifted and well-known for the reading novel lovers community around the world. She is universally popular among authors as well.

In 2007, her first book – Lullabies, which was for little offenders, was the best selection for Canadian reads. The book not only won the competition but also received the Hugh MacLennan Prize for fantasy. It went on to evolve into a global success.

Lisa Moore

She released her first book in 1995 name Degrees of Nakedness. In 2002, she continued to publish the next work – Open. Both of them are short novel collections. The latter book was truly a breakthrough, on both commercial and critical sides.

She earned many nominations for her books, such as “Open”, “Alligator”, etc. In 2010, she got another nomination for the Booker Prize for her story “February”.

Miriam Toews – Famous Canadian Authors

Toews is well-known for her two best-sellers “All my puny sorrows” and “A complicated kindness”. According to her, the inspiration for the novel “All my puny sorrows’” comes from the suicide of her elder sister. So, this is a book based on real-life events. You can truly feel the sorrow and grief in the book. 

She has won a string of prizes for her in her whole writing career, such as the Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award, the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, etc.

Margaret Laurence

Margaret Laurence is Canada’s one of the best-respected and adored authors. Her hometown is Neepawa, Manitoba.

She was the originator of the Writer’s Trust of Canada. This organization contributed a lot to Canadian literature and gave much encouragement to many authors.

Her best publication is “The Stone Angel”. Kari Skogland made it into a movie, starring Ellen Burstyn. The film was released in 2007 under the same name as the original book.
