The best things to explore at Chinatown market Sydney

Chinatown night market in Sydney is a vibrant neighborhood to eat your way through, with a melting pot of cultures and foods. Sydney’s Chinatown is one of the best in the world, with everything from old-school seafood restaurants and hole-in-the-wall noodle shops to exciting new precincts offering a modern take on Asian street food. What do you enjoy the most about your Chinatown market in Sydney, Australia?

Here is the best guide to the Chinatown market in Sydney:

1. Cuisine from all over Asia is diverse and rich.

The cuisines in the Chinatown market in Sydney range from northern Chinese hotpot to spicy southern Thai food. My favorite lunch dish is at Ho Jiak, a Malaysian restaurant in Sydney; their char kway teow is the best I’ve found in Sydney. I love the fried lard bits scattered throughout the noodles; they add an extra flavor as you eat.

2. Nighttime street food paradise

Chinatown market in Sydney is a popular late-night dining destination, with nighttime noodle markets and restaurants open late. I like to go to Thai noodle joint Dodee Paidang late at night for a level three or four of their spicy tom yum noodle soup; I love Thai food and anything spicy. Over the weekend, they’re open until midnight, and their keaw tod (deep-fried quail eggs wrapped in wonton wrappers) is a great late-night snack.

3. Coffee is worth a try.

Chinatown’s dining scene has evolved significantly over the years, with many sophisticated cafés and modern eateries now available. When I’m in the neighborhood, I like to stop by Edition Roasters; they roast their beans, so the quality is excellent. The cafe is also well-designed, but I prefer to order something to go to and explore the open space of Darling Square.

4. Don’t forget about Market City.

We know you enjoy cooking and were one of the early favorites to win MasterChef. Market City’s fresh food market has an incredible selection of fresh produce, including some of my favorites.

5. A musical or theatrical performance at the Capitol Theatre is a must-see.

The beautiful and historic Capitol Theatre in Sydney hosts world-class musicals, theater, ballet, concerts, and performers.

Visit the Capitol Theatre for a great and total night out, not just for the show! Arrive early and enjoy a relaxing drink with friends in the elegant and magnificent bars before the show.

6. KOI Dessert Bar

Your dessert bar KOI is well-known for its imaginative pastries, exotic flavors, and inventive designs.

Surprisingly, I am not a huge dessert eater myself, but when I do indulge, I enjoy:

  • Darling Square Gelato Messina I keep a tub or two (yes, seriously) of the classic Super Dulce de Leche flavor on hand. I’m a huge fan of gelato and ice cream.
  • Darling Square’s Bengong Black. This is my favorite place to get a good soft-serve beverage.
  • Yomie’s is located in Haymarket. Purple Rice Yoghurt is a delectable after-dinner treat.
