It was prominently displayed on the Scottish £5 note from 1987 to 2016. We don’t know why it was selected, nor do we know why Holyrood Palace received the majestic £100 note while Edinburgh Castle received the meager £1 note. However, we are aware that this is a noteworthy claim to fame.

The “penthouse” apartment belonged to President Eisenhower.

Eisenhower received a lifelong lease on the apartment on the castle’s top level in 1945. As a means of thanking him for his assistance with Scottish troops during the war, Scotland gave him the gift. After a few trips, he decided to spend some of his retirement strolling through the gardens and taking in the views of the sea.

You might have noticed that this staircase’s shape is a touch peculiar. The architect was compelled to design this unique but lovely oval staircase since the drum tower couldn’t accommodate a conventional circular staircase. Nowadays, it ranks among the architect’s most well-known accomplishments.

The breathtakingly lovely surroundings.

While difficult to access, these ancient caves are well worth the trip. These tunnels were utilized for smuggling and concealing contraband during the castle’s golden age, and it’s possible that people lived there before the castle even existed. Some claim that the owners of the castle participated in the illicit smuggling.

The world’s most beautiful greenhouse, perhaps.

Like it, you’ve likely never seen anything before. Castle and lovely greenhouse together. Before a significant makeover turned into a greenhouse designed exclusively for camellia blossoms, it was a boiler room.

We did want to inform you of the correct pronunciation, which is Cull-ane. The castle’s original name was Cullean Castle, but in the 1700s, a new, odd spelling of the name appeared.

There you have it, then. We don’t know what will persuade you to take a day trip and visit this enormous semi-castle if this hasn’t done it.
