If you’re already daydreaming about hiking in the warm weather as spring approaches, you should schedule a vacation to this location. It’s a beautiful spot for a day trip and only requires a short climb to reach a rare lake close to Toronto.
Milton, which is located less than an hour from Toronto, is home to Crawford Lake Conservation Area. There are beautiful trails, a longhouse settlement, and a green forest in the vicinity.
The Crawford Lake Trail is one such path. In a dense forest, an elevated boardwalk leads you around the 1-kilometer loop.
As you walk the path, you’ll see views of soaring trees and beautiful scenery. You should pause to explore this monument, which is a rare lake encircled by a boardwalk that is tucked away among the trees.
Meromictic lake refers to a body of water where “layers of water don’t intermix,” according to Ontario Parks. In all of Canada, it is one of very few. The short trip to the lake takes about five to ten minutes from the parking lot.
Although Crawford Lake Conservation Area is accessible all year long, you can also enjoy this boardwalk when it is covered in snow or when the leaves are changing colors.
The Hide & Seek route, where you can discover “larger-than-life” wooden carvings, is one of several gorgeous walks. A cross-country ski trail runs across the area, and three longhouses from the fifteenth century have been meticulously restored.
Before visiting the location, reservations must be made and can be done online.
